A series of photographs made during the 2024 season at Iwade Stadium, near Sheerness in the Kent countryside—a site that has been home to Speedway since 1971, which was effectively the heyday of the sport in the UK. Many towns throughout the country held weekly race meetings alongside Greyhound and Banger racing—a top night out in the 1970’s!
I have had a fascination with — and love for — dirt bike racing sInce the late 70’s, when I went with my family. I subsequently competed in Motocross as a teenager, later photographing Grand Prix and National Championships as a young photographer. In fact, my first published picture (in ‘Trials and Motocross News’, 1988) was an image from the famous Le Touquet beach race that I’d originally shot for a college project!
For this project I photographed several meetings between Kent Kings and visiting teams Eastbourne Eagles, Thurrock Hammers, Rye House Rockets and London 4TT.
